Classroom News

Welcome to our Classroom News page.

Our class has been chosen to pilot the "One to World" initiative at the fifth grade level. (This is already being done at the middle and high school levels.) That means that for the remainder of the year, each student will have his or her own personal iPad mini, which will be shared with our partner students from Mrs. Fitzgerald's class. Because we now have a device for each student in class, we will be using them much more to demonstrate the work we are doing in class. The cool part is that everything we do will eventually be viewable by parents as well!
Using these devices on a daily basis will be a learning experience for all of us, myself included. iPads will never completely eliminate the books we read, or the work we do on paper. Rather, they will help students think more deeply about the subjects we learn, and demonstrate their abilities in ways that they couldn't before. I'm very excited for this opportunity. If you have any questions about this initiative, please ask!

MATH NEWS

The students started their next math unit, fractions.  We are beginning with prerequisite skills such as simplifying before we begin computation with fractions.

SOCIAL STUDIES/ SCIENCE NEWS
Science is well underway. The students are learning about the scientific process and studying variables.
Please ask them about the experiments they are doing and what happens when you change a variable.
